Short sighted (Myopia)
- Image focuses in front of retina
- Near vision good
- Blurred distance vision
- Longer eye
Long Sighted (Hyperopia)
- Image focuses behind retina
- Distance usually good but may be blurred as well
- Blurred near vision
- Shorter eye
Astigmatism
- Rugby ball shaped cornea
- Image focuses at different planes across the retina

Presbyopia

- As we all get older we get an increasing inability to focus on near objects. This is due to loss of accommodation and is called presbyopia
- Presbyopia is caused by the thickening and loss of elasticity in our natural lens.
- The lens cannot relax to the shape required for near vision
Presbyopia affects people aged 45 and over and is corrected by using reading glasses- Long-sighted people always need additional prescription as separate glasses, bifocals or varifocals
- Short-sighted people may remove their distance glasses to read or use bifocals or varifocals.
