Ectropion is a common eyelid
condition
in older people
due to weakening of the delicate muscles of the eyelids. This causes
the lower
eyelid to droop away from the eye
and leaves the inner surface of the eyelid exposed, which makes it sore and
vulnerable to infection. The eye itself is also vulnerable to infection as
it is not sufficiently protected by the eyelid. Both
sides
are
commonly
equally affected
and
often at the same
time.
Diagnosis and treatment is fairly straightforward.
