Trabeculectomy
Argon Trabeculoplasty
This is a laser that is directed onto the trabecular meshwork. The procedure requires on average 40 to 80 laser applications taking up to 30 minutes to perform. It has the effect of increasing fluid drainage in the eye and lowering the intra ocular pressure.
Trabeculectomy
The traditional surgery procedure for glaucoma is called a Trabeculectomy. This can be described as filtering surgery. This procedure involves removing a piece of tissue from the Sclera (The tough white coat of the eye ball) this creates a flap valve in the trabecular Meshwork (the mesh through which the fluid drains).
